Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve and Environmental Center, a place of great beauty and serenity, invites you to discover the natural world around you.

Our 600+ acre preserve features a variety of habitats to enjoy. More than 20 species of ferns and at least 60 species of birds can be found within the preserve. You can explore more than 10 miles of footpaths that will lead you to unique rock formations, scenic vistas, and secret glades. The crystal-clear mountain streams are one of the headwaters for the Chesapeake Bay.

Strawberry Hill (SH) encompasses an area rich in cultural history including: a 1798 log and stone house, evidence of mining and logging, and a trail that historians believe once served as the colonial road to Fort Chamber.

Founded in 1986 to increase public awareness, Strawberry Hill provides educational experiences that strengthen environmental understanding.

Strawberry Hill provides valuable green space and recreation opportunities for individuals and groups in our community. The Preserve not only fulfills private needs for vibrant, outdoor space, but Strawberry Hill also helps Adams County and Hamiltonban township meet their public commitment to provide green space and recreation to their residents.

Our present facilities consist of a Nature Center with various artifacts, reptiles, amphibians, and educational displays, a 1798 Civil War Log House, a foundation and spillway for an 1850’s sawmill, an outdoor open pavilion capable of seating 100, a small 475 sq. ft. office, a picnic grove, four rental units, gravel parking lot that accomodates approximately 25 vehicles, and eight hiking and educational trails.

With the recent addition of the 2,600-acre Glatfelter Tree Farm No.1 to Michaux State Forest, Strawberry Hill became the southernmost established public access point to Michaux. The Tree Farm borders the southern boundary of Strawberry Hill and even since before its addition to Michaux was completed, the community has found our facilities a perfect access point to visit the tree farm.
