Naturalist Educator (Part-time opportunities available)      

Reports To:     Director of Environmental Education

Multiple positions available and open until filled.

 Overview: Strawberry Hill is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire stewardship of our natural world by connecting the community with educational opportunities. To achieve this mission, Strawberry Hill delivers educational field trips to school-aged children, provides experiential learning for adults and families, collaborates with regional partners to host engaging lectures, programs, and workshops, and hosts community events with a focus on environmental education. Since our foundation in 1986, Strawberry Hill has educated more than 100,000 people!

 The ideal candidate should demonstrate exceptional teaching skills and exude a love of nature.  

 Purpose & Summary: As a Naturalist Educator, you will be responsible for leading programs that support our mission. Naturalist Educators work closely with Strawberry Hill staff and volunteers to teach and reinforce key scientific concepts, promote stewardship of our natural world, and advocate Strawberry Hill as a unique resource in our community through engaging, experiential learning. Naturalist Educators will be trained to lead our existing programs and events and will work with the Environmental Education Manager to develop new curriculum and programming as we continue to expand our outreach and impact in the community.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivers exemplary environmental education programs in both traditional and non-traditional settings including field trips, community events, afterschool programs, scouts, birthday parties, and summer camps

  • Effectively communicates and coordinates with all members of the Strawberry Hill staff to ensure overall success of programming

  • Assists in the development of new programs and themes to support our mission of environmental education

  • Updates program curriculum and maintains program supplies as necessary

  • Attends staff training and development sessions

  • Provides exemplary customer service for Strawberry Hill visitors, participants, and supporters

  • Maintains clean and safe program spaces

  • Properly handles animals for educational purposes, ensuring the safety of yourself, the animals, and participants

  • Other duties as assigned

 Qualifications, Skills, Abilities:

  • Degree in science and/or education (or current student pursuing a degree in a science and/or education) or experience teaching a nature-based curriculum

  • Excellent communication and teaching skills

  • Ability to effectively communicate to a variety of audiences, including school groups and educators.

  • Self-motivated and reliable

  • Occasional weekend and evening availability

  • Physical ability to work outside in inclement weather and lead hikes

  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment

  • Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or the ability to obtain (required)

  • Current FBI background check, Pennsylvania child abuse clearances or ability to obtain (required)

Compensation: $18/hour. This position is part-time with flexible hours dependent upon your availability and the current demand for programming. Programs are primarily scheduled on weekdays, with occasional evenings and weekends required.
